About Us

Kevin: Captain (or so he thinks), fisherman, and fix-it man. Kevin was born an Army brat, but after a few early moves, his family settled on Merritt Island, FL when he was six, and has been an avid boater since. He grew up on the intracoastal, and spent many long days fishing, water skiing, surfing, or spending a day somehow on the water. His love of the water continued in his professional life as he studied marine biology and physical oceanography at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (bachelors), and marine engineering at the University of Michigan (masters). He retired from the Coast Guard in 2015 following a career working in commercial vessel compliance inspecting commercial boats, from small excursion passenger boats to large oil tankers and cruise ships. After the Coast Guard, Kevin did some maritime compliance consulting and currently manages a marine import/export terminal. He enjoys spending time with his family on the boat or on the slopes, where his kids are quickly starting to out ski him.

Steph: Wife, mamma, housekeeper, teacher and nurse-on-board. Is a native New Englander who grew up north shore of Boston. She has a background in maternal-child health (labor & delivery and post-partum) and currently working per diem at a local hospital helping to save for the cruising kitty. She has always been a lover of the water and with serious wanderlust in her blood. Put those two together and here she is, planning to sail away into the wild blue yonder with her husband, 4 crazy kids and 2 dogs. While she has little experience sailing before now,  she’s been sailing every moment possible and reading about sailing when not on her boat. She may have a mild obsession with ordering sailing books on Amazon Prime. In her “free time”, you can find her running, doing triathlons, or weight lifting. She’s also a self taught photographer, and looking forward to expanding her horizons! She also has been homeschooling her kiddos since pretty much the beginning in hopes to lessen the transition to boat-schooling. After surviving cervical cancer in 2016, she has lit the fire to buy the boat and get her family sailing. Life is too short to not buy the boat.

Mairead, 12: Our oldest child and first one to enter the “tween-age” years.  Mairead is our independent thinker, always loving to push the wrong buttons to show her desire to be fiercely independent. She has a big heart with big ideas. When Mairead isn’t sailing or downhill skiing, she is running. She has placed in her age group at several local 5Ks, even grabbing 1st in her age group and has run the TD Beach 2 Beacon 10K three times here in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She has completed 2 kid triathlons as well. She is a great athlete when she puts her mind to it. Mairead enjoys reading books in the realistic-fiction category. She also loves baking & cooking with her sisters. Her favorite dish to prepare is Risotto. Her favorite thing about sailing is when “we’re tipped over” and “going fast.” Her favorite sailing “job” is starting the engine and hoisting the mainsail with her daddy.

Lilah, 10: You may hear us say “there’s something about Lilah” and that’s true! Lilah is our dramatic, funny, smart, easy-going, peace-maker who always says “FINE! I’ll do it!” when no one else wants to do the job. She’s definitely the “go-getter” of the family and can always count on her to help. When she’s not sailing, you can find her with her nose in a book, particularly a fantasy-type novel. Lilah is the one who will want to throw on make-up with shorts and a tank to get down and dirty. When Lilah is off the boat, she loves skiing, running, and swimming. She has run many 5K’s, 1 10K and 2 kid triathlons. She is going to be the one to watch when she’s in her teen years, and don’t mean in sports! Lilah also loves baking & cooking with her sisters. She loves baking cakes. Her favorite thing is seeing wildlife and climbing into the sail. Her favorite sailing “job” is furling/unfurling the jib.

Clara, 8: is our sweet, “Clara-Belle”. She is wonderful at working those striking blue eyes in order to get her way in many situations. She is strong, fiesty and sweet all in one package. She may be quiet, but believe me, when she comes out of her shell, watch out! Clara is an excellent athlete. She is an amazing skier, runner, swimmer and has completed 2 triathlons. She also loves reading! Clara enjoys baking & cooking with her sisters. Her favorite thing about sailing is seeing wildlife. Her favorite “job” on the boat is working the jib.

Callum (Cal), 7: Is the youngest kiddo, and he is the typical 4th kid. He’s fiercely independent and mildly obsessed about boats and the ocean. Oh, and he is loud…no, like really loud. He has a wild sense of adventure! Any kid who jumps off a bridge into the water at age 3, has an adventurous soul, and that’s him! He loves to fish with his daddy, swim and kayak. When he isn’t sailing, he’s tearing it up on the ski slopes or annoying his big sisters. His favorite thing about sailing is the wildlife and playing Uno. He loves working the jib when he’s sailing.
