The Boat

Our boat, Serendipity (her name is currently Syrena until we officially rename her next spring), is a 2011 Jeanneau 44i. She has 4 cabins with 2 forward bunks (which the wall can be removed and turned into a king size cabin) and 2 queen size cabins aft. There are 2 heads (bathrooms) aft as well. She has a large, dual helm cockpit. She is powered by a 440 amp-hour battery bank with a charging capacity of 400 watts of solar and 400 watts of wind.  She has an open transom that allows us to have easy access to the water, which is ideal for our family. She was purchased by a family from the U.K.in 2016 who lovingly sailed around the Caribbean and cared for her. Before that she lived in the British Virgin Islands where she was in charter. We were very lucky in that most boats that have been in charter have taken a beating, but Serendipity was in excellent condition despite this.

We chose the name “Serendipity” because of the way in which we found her. We were looking at another boat in Annapolis, but had some reservations. We came across the family who was sailing her and preparing to end their voyage to go back home. The family met us in the Bahamas in Spring 2017 while we were on vacation so we could see the boat. It was love at first sight! The family was great, too, and not only did we find a beautiful new boat, but we made new friends as well. In July 2017, the family sailed the boat to our home port of Portland, Maine, and she’s been sailing the coast of Maine ever since.
